The IOP TARGET is a calculator that helps establish a target pressure for a patient, given the initial untreated (and unadjusted) Goldmann pressure and classification of glaucoma. The algorithm is based on 'Glaucoma: Evidence-Based Treatment Guidelines' by Anne Coleman, Md, PhD, published and distributed by Thompson PDR in 2004-5.
The glaucoma classification is chosen from the drop down list; glaucoma classification definitions can be reviewed by clicking question mark button. Any GAT values entered on the previous IOP CORRECTION form will be carried forward; clicking ' fill ' will also bring forward any entered values.
The minimum GAT reduction calculation for both right and left eyes will be calculated (target value = 1 - min. reduction percent), and is shown as a percentage of the baseline GAT value, e.g. a 30% reduction of 25 is 25 X 70% = 18 for the right eye, and 31 X 70% = 22 for the left eye. The GAT and Target values for each eye are stored for later printing and/or storing as a text file on the PDA (see printing and saving instructions).
NOTE: the IOP TARGET values are not influenced by the RISK FACTORS chosen earlier. Valid data to precisely predict the risk of hypertension becoming glaucoma or for glaucoma progression, based on various risk factors, have not been published (yet).
The ' CALC ' button forces another calculation of the target IOP.
The ' Clr ' button clears all values.
The ' ? ' button shows the definitions for the glaucoma classifications.
